Eating Disorders are on the rise because the messages about body image online make body acceptance, very hard.
Body image is a term that refers to how a person perceives, thinks and feels about their body. For many people, their body image can be a source of stress, anxiety, and low self-esteem. But it's important to remember that everyone's body is unique and beautiful in its own way.
If you struggle with negative body image, there are things you can do to learn to cope with it. Here are a few tips:
I’ve been a specialized eating disorder therapist for over a decade and one the biggest triggers for relapse, disordered eating, and developing an eating disorder is body image concerns. Struggling to accept your body and fighting to lose weight and maintain your mental health or causing you to lose sleep, miss lunch meetings, and skip out on friend with friends because you feel “not enough” because of your body image.
Every day in my private practice, and in the community forums I hear how bad body image ruins whole days, whole lives. It keeps people from connecting with loved ones. It keeps people from accepting a job, or a date, or a simply missing more time with friends because they feel they do not look “enough” to attend.
